Names that break things (in a good way)
Real names are messier than “John Smith”. Good test data includes apostrophes (O’Connor), hyphenated surnames, particles like “de la” or “van”, accented letters (José, Müller) and scripts other than Latin. Many sign-up forms still reject some of them. Generate a batch in each locale and run it through your validation, database and PDF exports.

Are these real people’s names?
They are combinations of common first and last names from the open-source Faker project’s locale data. Any match with a real person is coincidence; the output is not drawn from any directory of real people.
What can I use a fake name for?
Test accounts, form and database testing, UI mock-ups, sample documents and privacy-preserving placeholders. Don’t use generated identities to deceive people or businesses, or to get around identity checks.
Can I get names from other countries?
Yes. Pick English (US or UK), German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil) or Japanese. Non-English locales are a quick test of whether your app handles accents and non-Latin scripts.
